This site was launched on August 4, 2007 as a small site with just a few pictures in the gallery and the episode guides. Over time, the site has grown much bigger with many of the past and current serving officers generously giving interviews for inclusion here. The web team would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who has given their time and photographs to this site.
After a short hiatus, we are back online and have now updated the site to include the move to Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. A warm welcome to everyone in the RCU, TAG and Dog Squad!
A Potted History
Road Wars was the brainchild of Steve Warr and Bill Rudgard. Beginning in 2003, they followed the members of Thames Valley Police’s Roads Policing Proactive Unit. Unlike many other police programmes around at that time, they followed the officers around as they carried out their day to day duties, a format which has now become the norm for other similar shows such as ‘Street Wars’, ‘Traffic Cops’ and more recently ‘Police Interceptors’.
There have now been six series of Road Wars with Thames Valley Police, as well as two Christmas specials and a USA Special which saw PC Chris Piggott and PC Andy Samuels travel to Chicago to experience the differences in policing and criminal behaviour in the US. There have also been three compilation specials which were aired in 2008 as a swansong for Thames Valley Police.
From 2009, the series has moved to the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and now follows the officers of three teams: the newly formed Road Crime Unit, the Tactical Aid Group and the Dog Section.
Road Wars is shown exclusively on Sky Television in the UK (Sky 1, 2 and 3) and has also been sold abroad to countries such as Holland, Russia, New Zealand, Australia, Finland, Sweden and Estonia.
