Episode 19

Steve and Razor are in Exeter, heading out to assist with a report of a fight that leaves Razor with not a lot more to do than bark in the back. They reach the scene to find a single individual who is wearing a messy moustache of claret and an air of high dudgeon. He claims to have been attacked by a group of youths, and emphasises his anger at the situation with wild gesticulations that send splats of blood in all directions. He refuses to calm down, and ends up having to be section fived after lunging at Steve and the local officers who've also had to wade in. Matters are further muddied by some passers by who claim that, far from being set upon, he's actually been deliberately picking fights with anyone in striking distance, and one of them has the wounds to prove it. Things don't improve once the cuffs are on, as it takes three of them to get the man into the back of a van.
Chris and Mike are up by the Tamar Bridge with the ANPR for company, which alerts them to a car in front with a drugs marker on it. An attempt to pull them over on a sliproad fails, as the driver instead pulls up at the edge of the road – and it's not a motorway, so there's no hard shoulder. Mike has to scoot out and move her on to a safer spot – though he's pretty convinced that, by the time they actually do stop somewhere safe, any drugs aboard won't be any more. They do eventually get it stopped – though over the brow of a hill on a sliproad probably isn't that much safer. Rather than keep on trying to find stopping points, they give up and deal with the driver there. The driver is in the passenger seat, and her friend is driving instead. Mike is suspicious of their twitchy behaviour. The driver isn't sure she's covered to drive the car as she's doing so as a favour. And it turns out she isn't. As the car has a drug marker, they get down to the original business of the stop – drugs. The owner of the car immediately admits to having Amphetamine in the car, and hands over a startlingly large bag full of the stuff, though the huge bag in the boot turns out to be a pillow...
Gareth is on patrol with Finn in Exeter. They're off to find a driver who's crashed his car and left the scene. The suspicion is that the driver is drunk, and the word is that the driver has returned home. Gareth is soon with them, and they've found the very obviously crashed car. A visit to the registered keeper's home reveals the man they're looking for. As Gareth searches him, it becomes clear that he's not very steady on his feet. Out comes the breathalyser, something with which the man is apparently very familiar. This machine not only knows if you've been drinking, but can also tell how much you've had. The driver blows 139. The next thing under consideration is the small matter of insurance. The man claims he is – and gets out a letter from his insurance company to prove it. Unfortunately, the letter he's got, while from his insurance company, is actually a warning that he's not paid for it...
The TAG are in Torquay working on a drugs operation. They're part of a dual strike – two teams hitting two addresses simultaneously in hopes of finding the suspected dealer they're after. Their arrival doesn't require use of the enforcer, as the door is unlocked; so they pile in and catch the household unawares. There are the usual protestations of innocence, and claims that there is no reason why they should have raided the house; but everyone says that – and the search is yet to commence. The first find is a large heap of cash, and a drugs dog excitedly uncovers the drugs that were so adamantly claimed not to be present. To be fair – the drugs weren't actually in the house. They were in the car.
Chris and Luggy are parked up on the A30 outside Exeter putting themselves at risk of pressure sores while waiting for someone to do something naughty in front of the ANPR. Distraction comes in the form of news that a traffic unit has stopped a speeding car on the M5. As one of the occupants is someone of interest to the RCU, camera work is suspended and they head off to rendezvous with the traffic unit. It also turns out that the traffic officers have found some drugs in the car, so everyone meets up in a layby to sort out what happens next. The chase must have been quite spectacular, as the car is brought in accompanied by three traffic vehicles. As there's no female officer around, the passenger will have to be searched back at Heavitree. Luggy heads off to organise the searches, while Chris takes care of the car. Chris is updating Jim on progress when the dog gets terribly excited over the bag of white powder its just found. Sometimes it pays to have a distraction.
Gareth is out in Exwick responding to a frightened call from someone who has had a stranger hammering on their front door for half an hour and who was last seen lurking in the back garden. This is not a job for Finn, as Gareth has found a likely suspect – someone with whom he is well acquainted. The man concerned is a 'local character' who is currently in a solid state of inebration. Matters are not helped by an equally soused friend who just won't go away. With little option, Gareth arrests the man. It all turns out that, like the odd bloke who fell asleep on Oli's shoulder in series six, the fellow has got to such sozzled state that he's forgotten where he lives, and has been banging on the wrong door. If he's actually staying in the house that he was trying to find, then all will be well. A quick search proves that he is – and he's de-arrested and sent off to his bed for the night.
