My Uncle was in the Met and both him and my dad always encouraged me to join the police for all the obvious reasons like it being a very secure and safe job with a good pension at the end, and obviously it’s very rewarding in many aspects. However it was probably down to all his stories he used to tell that clinched it as they all sounded great.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Being out there and getting involved. No two days are the same.
What was your favourite Road Wars moment that you were in?
Probably the arrest of the Lad in the Asda Foyer (the 2004 Christmas Special) for possession with intent to supply cocaine and burglary. This bloke had been wanted for several months and had evaded capture on numerous occasions before myself and Mark caught him dealing in the Asda car park in the Meadway, Reading. He made on off on foot but I ran and detained him in the front foyer . Unfortunately during the footage you can hear me shouting a very feeble shout of help which didn’t do my street cred any good.
What was your favourite Road Wars moment of another officer’s?
There have been a few. The pursuit involving Pat and Carl in London Road, Langley, where they decided to push the offending car backwards and sidewards down the road and against the tree stands out. Especially at the end when they burnt their clutch out and Pat kicked the car in frustration.
What was it like being followed by a camera crew?
We were very fortunate having the likes of Tom as a camera man. He was very easy going and relaxed and as such made you feel very relaxed so it wasn’t an issue really. It also helped that he supported QPR like myself so we had a bit in common.
If you weren’t a police officer, what do you think you would be doing?
Probably still be a Croupier in a casino somewhere.
Which of the cars did you like driving the best? (thinking Omegas vs. Vectras etc!)
Our car (the green goddess or Ronnie as we called it) was one of the last 3.0 litre omegas prior to the model changing and it was great. One of the quickest in the fleet at the time. To personalise it, Mark and I also added a little sound box to it, which would sound the noises of Tarzan, woody woodpecker, wolf whistle, roadrunner and a horse through a loud speaker and was endless fun.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that not many people know (that’s printable!!)
My previous jobs were quite varied ranging from working on a farm/double glazing fitter/postman before my previous job which was a croupier in a London casino dealing roulette, black jack and punto banco.
