What was your call sign on RW?
Tango Victor 32
What’s your nickname?
Knighty (original!!) or TV’s own by the lads at the cricket club.
Why did you become a police officer?
Because I felt it was a worthwhile job offering me plenty of variety. I couldn’t do a job involving regular hours and being confined to one workspace. It also gave me the opportunity to put something back into the community. I also dislike people who prey on others especially the weak and vulnerable, and who live their own lives by taking what belongs to other people.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
The variety and never knowing what the next few minutes will bring. The satisfaction of taking criminals away from the communities they destroy.
What was your favourite RW moment that you were in?
The Slough pursuit where the clutch burnt out on our car after attempting to re arrange the panels. Also the young lad with the marigolds on in Slough and the Asian lad in Reading who took his dads taxi and the remarks made by dad when he turned up at the scene about locking the boy up.
What was your favourite RW moment of another officer’s?
That is a difficult one as there are so many. There are loads that were never aired which were brilliant. If I had to make a choice I think it would have to be in the latest series when Ronny hit the marked car head on whilst it was parked on the hard shoulder of the M1. Absolutely classic.
What was it like being followed by a camera crew?
No problems at all. They were brilliant and never imposed. They never asked us to do anything to cue, they just let us get on with our job and never asked us to concentrate on any one particular issue. Some crews ask you to do re runs so they can get the best shot, but the lads from Raw Cut TV never did and just let us get on with whatever we were doing.
If you weren’t a police officer, what do you think you would be doing?
Working for myself doing landscape gardening, fencing and tree work. I love being outdoors and doing a job where you can see results.
Which of the cars did you like driving the best?
The Omega was a good motor, but the new Vectra is quicker and handles completely differently and is good fun to drive. My current job car is an unmarked Skoda Octavia 2 litre 150bhp Fsi, and that is surprisingly good fun and pretty quick.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that not many people know:
I started my working life on a farm and have had my arm up a few cows’ bums. I can also drive a combine harvester. Nice. Another one is that me and some of the other RW guys met Neil Morrissey in a pub in Soho and spent about an hour drinking with him. He recognised us from RW.
